How to do Black Friday in 2020

This year has been unlike any other, and we expect this year’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Giving Tuesday, and Cyber Monday to be equally as different as the rest of the year. Some companies have started doing sales as early as the first week in November while others are waiting until Thanksgiving Day. If you have been hesitant to participate in Black Friday in years past due to the crowds, chaos, and mania that ensues, then this year is the time to try it out since it is all mostly online. We are here to help you navigate the online deals like a pro.

Here are some companies to watch out for this Black Friday, from big corporations to small businesses:

Large Retail Chains:

Walmart started their Black Friday “Days of Deals” campaign at the beginning of the month, aiming to spread it out in order to mitigate in-store crowds. They will be starting their third batch of sales online on November 25th, so make sure to check them out. Target’s Black Friday deals have already started and you can expect to save hundreds on tech, kitchen gadgets, and more. Amazon is celebrating Black Friday all week long with deals on over a thousand items including clothing, suitcases, and tons of pieces of technology. Lowes is waiting until the day of Thanksgiving to start their Black Friday deals where you can expect to find deep discounts on appliances, holiday decorations, and smart home items such as a Google Home. Best Buy is staggering their sales similar to Walmart but in a shorter amount of time. There are already sales on items like the Amazon Echo Dot and there will be more added on Thanksgiving Day like KitchenAid mixers and on Saturday there will be laptops from brands like Lenovo and HP deeply discounted.

Books are great gifts to give people during the holiday season. Instead of running to Amazon, why not support small, independent bookstores that are struggling during the pandemic? The Strand Bookstore is offering a free $20 gift card if you buy up to $100 in gift cards. Gift cards are great to give when you don’t know someone’s book preferences so they can just pick for themselves instead. In previous years, other bookstores like The Last Bookstore, Books of Wonder, Kepler’s and McNally Jackson had deals on Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, however this year they have not announced any promotions yet since they have been severely hit during this pandemic. This year, consider supporting these businesses and looking at other independent bookstores in your area that could use some help. Indie Bound has a great indie bookstore finder that will help you find local stores.

Some of the biggest sales this Black Friday season will be on clothes. From big corporations to smaller brands, there will be sales everywhere. Nordstrom has rebranded the time to be Cyber Deals all over their site from children’s clothing, to men’s and women, to home goods. Expect to get up to 50% off on thousands of items until December 1st. Madewell has been doing their Cyber Sale, 30% off the whole site, since early November, but it has only been available to Madewell Icons and Stars until November 19th, Insider members got access from November 20th until the 23rd, and everyone else will get to access the deals from November 24th until the 29th. & Other Stories is keeping it more traditional and sticking to November 25th. They have an email list that will give you early access to amazing deals and discounts on Cyber Monday, November 30th. They are saying that everything will be in the sale, but the exact discounts will be released on the day of the sale itself. The fashion fanatic’s favorite Net-a-Porter rarely does sales, but this Black Friday they are expecting to give discounts up to 50% off on products from all over the site. The celebrity favorite, Alo Yoga, has already started deep discounts as of November 20th where the site became 70% off everything with the code EARLYACCESS20 until the 24th. Then November 25th until the 29th, the same deal will be available without the code, and there will be new items during their Five Days of Drops. The deal also will be available during Cyber Monday and then on Giving Tuesday a percentage will go towards Alo Gives, to give classes in yoga and mindfulness to children. Christy Dawn is already offering 30% off sitewide since November 21st which will go on until the 30th with the code LOVE30. AG Jeans started offering 30% off sitewide from November 13th which will end until the 30th, exclusions apply. State Cashmere will give you $35 off if you use the code THX2020 at purchase until November 30th.

This Black Friday is going to be chocked full of sales from tons of different beauty brands. Kosas is offering holiday sales sitewide where you can get 20% off if you spend $25+, 25% off if you spend $50+, or 30% off if you spend $75+ until November 30th. Home goods can be very expensive, which is why waiting until a sale like Black Friday or Cyber Monday can be crucial to saving you hundreds of dollars. My Green Mattress started their Black Friday sale on November 10th and it will continue through November 29th. During the sale, they are offering $250 off on their natural escape bed, $175 off on their kiwi and pure echo mattresses, and 20% off on accessories and crib mattresses. Sister Collective, which is a zero-waste store, is offering 20% off and free shipping on orders over $50 from November 25th until November 30th with the code ECOJOY20. Made Trade is not only a home store, but they also have shoes, clothing, and accessories. This year, through November 30th, they are doing a get 10% off on or donate 10% to their Black Friday Fund which helps give food to those in need. Delilah Home is known for its organic bed sheets, towels, pet beds, and more. Other sales are going on at the same time so take advantage of all the deals by checking them out today.

One of the best reasons to take advantage of Black Friday is to get huge discounts on higher-priced items that normally don’t go on sale any other time. Jewelry, especially fine jewelry, is one such category. Pandora is a larger jewelry retailer and is offering 35% off on everything sitewide every Friday during November. The last one is this upcoming one on November 27th. Kay Jewelers is also a larger retailer and is offering 60% off on select styles until November 30th. Mejuri is a smaller brand of fine jeweler that has been gaining popularity for its affordable prices on gems and gold. They have not announced what will be on sale and how much the discount will be, but they have set up an email alert so customers are the first to find out.

EcoCult has created a comprehensive list of the sustainable brands to watch this Black Friday to Cyber Monday season. Boma Jewelry is one of those brands and is offering EcoCult readers a free gift with a minimum purchase of $18. Everyone else can get 15% off on their first purchase by using the code ECOCULT15. The family-owned business has also established the Boma Girl Fund which helps those struggling during this pandemic. Between November 20th to November 30th you can either give 25% to the fund or get 25% off by using two different codes (GIVE25 or GET25) at checkout. The Valley Rose Studio specialized in fair mined gold and is handcrafted in Northern California is offering 15% off and a free gift of 14k fairmined gold earrings with purchases of $500+ from November 30th until December 2nd. Since November 20th until November 30th, Fair Anita, an artisan community of 8,000 Giving Tuesday, all those profits go towards Covid-19 relief. SOLIOS the fine watch brand is taking a different approach and will be shutting down its site from Black Friday until Cyber Monday to promote ethical shopping.
